 Vazhaipoo Usili Vazhaipoo usili is basically a South Indian dish, especially from Tamil Nadu. The word usili means broken or crumbled. There are so many Usili dishes here in Tamil Nadu. So, today I am going to show you the very tasty and nutrient-rich recipe of Vazhaipoo Usili. Also, the recipe is a good combination for gravies, curd rice, and rasam rice. And also, vazhaipoo (banana flower or banana blossom) was a good source of iron, calcium, fiber, potassium, and vitamins A, B, and E. So, I'll give step-by-step instructions in the below post. Hi, guys! Today I am going to share the traditional Kali recipe. It is Thiruvathirai Kali. The thiruvathirai kali was cooked for festival time, especially on the star day of thiruvathirai, and offered to Lord Shiva in Arudra Dharshan. The main key ingredients of Thiruvathirai Kali were raw rice, moong dal, and jaggery. so I'll give instructions with a photo in the below blog.


Ingredients:

  • Raw rice                    - 1/2 cup
  • Moong dal                 - 1/2 cup
  • Jaggery                      - 1/2 cup
  • Cashew nut                - 5 nos
  • Raisins                       - 5 nos
  • Oil                             - 3 tsp
  • Ghee                          - 2 tsp
  • Cardamom powder    - 1/2 tsp
  • Water                         - 1 cup

Instructions:

  • To begin, heat a kadai, add raw rice, and roast until a light golden brown colour.

  • Then add moong dal to the heated kadai and roast until it turns aromatic.

  • Allow the mixture to cool and grind to a coarse texture in the mixer jar. and transfer to the mixing bowl.

  • Jaggery syrup making: take a vessel, add 1/2 cup of jaggery and 1 and 1/2 cup of water, and dilute the jaggery in the water. and then filter it. 


  • Pour the jaggery syrup into the ground flour and combine to make a batter. 

  • After that, heat a kadai and add 3 tsp of oil; once the oil gets hot, pour batter into the kadai and stir for 2 minutes on a low flame. Once the batter gets thick, add 1 tsp of ghee and add cardamom powder and mix well.


  • Seasoning: Heat a pan, add ghee, and once the ghee melts, add cashews and raisins. Then transfer to the Kali.


  • Finally, the Thiruvathirai Kali is ready. Serve it and enjoy.
